mdg_wecan_endpoverty2015

At the United Nations Millennium Summit in September 2000, world leaders agreedto a set of time-bound and measurable goals and targets for combating poverty, hunger, disease, illiteracy, environmental degradation and discrimination againstwomen.

These Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) are now at the heart of theglobal agenda. The MDGs provide a framework for the entire UN system to work cohesively andsupport countries achieve their development objectives.

The UN Development Group co-ordinates the development activities of the UN System within this MDGframework. Present in virtually every developing country, the UN is uniquely positioned to advocate for change, connect countries to expertise and resources, andhelp coordinate broader efforts at the country level.

In Trinidad and Tobago, the UN Country Team’s MDG Expanded Theme Group (TG) supports the Government in monitoring progress made towards achievement of the MDG Goals. [ learn more about MDGs in T&T ]
