The United Nations has been working in Trinidad and Tobago since 1961 when the United Nations Technical Assistance Board established an office in Port of Spain. After Trinidad and Tobago became a Member State in 1962, following its Independence, several other UN offices signed Host Country Agreements and began operations.

Today there are nine (9) resident offices in T&T:

  • ECLAC
  • FAO
  • ILO
  • PAHO/WHO
  • UNAIDS
  • UNDP
  • UNFPA
  • UNIC
  • UNICEF

 

This family of offices known as the UN System in Trinidad and Tobago (UNTT) supports the Government and people of T&T in its pursuit of national development through work in such key areas o  human rights, peace and secrutiy, environmental sustainability and development - all interdependent issues that guide the activities of the UN.

Currently, all Member statesare grappling to meet their commitment to achieve the eight  Millennium Development Goals (MDG) by 2015. Through technical expertise. programme and project support and general public information, the UNTT provides critical support to Trinidad and Tobago in this area.

Beware of Fraudsters Using United Nations Name, Emblem to Solicit Cash, Personal Information.

The United Nations is concerned that fraudulent correspondence using the Organization's name and emblem is circulating worldwide via websites, e-mails, fax messages and phone calls.

As the number of reported fraudulent cases increases around the world, the United Nations is warning the public about illicit schemes to solicit money and, in many cases, personal information from private individuals, using the United Nations name and emblem [ full details ]
