The Millennium Development Goals

At the United Nations Millennium Summit in September 2000, world leaders agreed to a set of time-bound and measurable goals and targets for combating poverty, hunger, disease, illiteracy, environmental degradation and discrimination against women. These Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) are now at the heart of the global agenda.

The MDGs provide a framework for the entire UN system to work cohesively and support countries achieve their development objectives. The UN Development Group co-ordinates the development activities of the UN System within this MDG framework. Present in virtually every developing country, the UN is uniquely positioned to advocate for change, connect countries to expertise and resources, and
help coordinate broader efforts at the country level. In Trinidad and Tobago, the UN Country Team’s MDG Expanded Theme Group (TG) supports the Government in monitoring progress made towards achievement of the MDG Goals.
